Damon H. Petty, MD Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery Locations Nashville Baptist Medical Plaza II Lebanon 1616 W. Main St., Suite 300 Lebanon, TN 37087 615-443-7374
Dedicated to providing the most up-to-date clinical, operative and technical expertise available in orthopaedic care.
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
He received his MD from the University of Virginia.
During this time he also did management consulting on Quality Improvement methodology and published a book on investments in the stock market.
Dr. Petty performed his 5-year Orthopaedic Residency Training at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, where he developed his clinical skills and his interest in sports medicine and orthopaedic research.
Dr. Petty then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship with Dr. James R. Andrews and Dr. William G. Clancy in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout his training, Dr. Petty was involved in the care of hundreds of collegiate and professional athletes through their association with the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Braves, Auburn Tigers and other pro and college teams.
Since coming to Nashville, he has served as an orthopaedic consultant for various high school, college and pro teams including the Nashville Sounds, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
We have developed techniques to perform virtually all formerly open procedures arthroscopically, including Rotator Cuff Repair, Shoulder Stabilization for dislocating or unstable shoulders, and treatment of Fractures and Frozen Shoulder.
This means no large incisions, less pain, and easier recovery of motion. And for throwing athletes, it offers a greatly increased chance to return to their sport.
Dr. Petty is a national instructor in Advanced Shoulder Arthroscopy, publishes medical articles, and gives national presentations on the shoulder. Dr. Petty also performs total shoulder replacement surgery and other open procedures when indicated.
THE KNEE:
We can perform ACL reconstruction through as little as a 1" incision and offer our patients their choice of graft type.
Dr. Petty has performed numerous cadaveric studies to improve the technique for ACL reconstruction and teaches these to other orthopaedic surgeons at courses in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Petty also performs Cartilage Repair using the latest in biological resurfacing technology.
When necessary, he provides Partial or Total Knee Replacement through a minimally-invasive approach. He also offers "painless" Total Knee Replacement surgery through the use of indwelling epidural catheters during and after the surgical procedure.
THE ELBOW:
We are able to use arthroscopic techniques to treat common elbow disorders such as Tennis Elbow if conservative measures fail. We also perform advanced arthroscopy on the elbow in athletes to remove Loose Bodies, Bone Spurs and Scar Tissue.
Dr. Petty is a nationally-recognized expert in Reconstruction of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament in throwers.
He also performs repair of cartilage lesions in the elbow in throwers and surgical reconstruction of complex elbow fractures. He has consulted for numerous professional baseball teams.
THE ANKLE:
We perform Ligament Recon-struction in the ankle for patients with chronic, recurrent ankle sprains and instability through a minimally-invasive incision.
Dr. Petty also performs arthroscopic reconstruction of cartilage lesions in the ankle when appropriate. He has given national and international presentations on cartilage repair techniques, including Mosaic Osteochondral Autografting, and Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation, which he performs in the knee, elbow, and ankle.
We provide Total Hip Replacement Surgery for the management of degenerative joint disease.
In special circumstances, Dr. Petty will utilize new implant technology to increase the lifespan of the components and prevent the need for early revision surgery.
One example is the use of Ceramic Components for the femoral head and acetabulum, which eliminates virtually all perceptible wear of the components even after millions of use cycles.
OSTEOARTHRITIS:
We have developed a specific, three-phase protocol for the conservative treatment of osteoarthritis in the knees, shoulders and hips that has demonstrated excellent success (without the need for surgery).
